What the chart shows
Each month’s band of the chart has its graceful sine-curve shape because it follows the Sun, Moon, and planets along the ecliptic, which arches north around June and dips south around December.
Among details you can pick out are planets’ oppositions, clusterings with each other, swirlings around the Sun, and where they will appear during a solar eclipse, such as the total eclipse of August 2, 2027.
You can see how the Sun roams north and south through the year, the Moon’s sunlit face changes shape as it whirls around us, and the planets migrate around the sky. There is a full explanation of the many layers of detail.
