In the email arrived this crafty piece of temptation:

New Moon was on September 9 (at 18h Universal Time), so the Moon is barely above the horizon at sunset.

Venus is passing south of Spica.

That sounds pompous, I’ve borrowed it from the bulletins of the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams. But first —
